Fishing Club

The Whangapoua Fishing Competition is an annual competition held every year on the 2nd of Janaury - weather permitting.

The competition has been going for 27 years and is now the beaches main annual event attracting over 300 entries each year.

The event officially starts at 6am in the morning with weigh in between 5pm and 6pm that evening.

The competition is officially sponsored by Kilwell Sports Fishing who have been our sponsors since 1990 and generously provide fishing gear each year.

Each of the main prize categories include trophies which were carved by Irene Thompson from local Kauri and which are displayed in the Store. The prize for the largest Snapper is the the Roger McLachlan Shield.

The current organising committe members are Rod Fraser and Sean Eccles.

Tickets can be purchased every year from the Store.
